Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu to inaugurate International Conference on Environmental Diversity & Jurisprudence at Chandigarh University on Saturday


Supreme Court Judges, representatives from 20 countries, UN to deliberate on future roadmap in two-day-long Conference


Environment, Forest & Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav, Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit to attend the conference


With a vision to formulate the roadmap and future direction to India’s efforts at attaining the global targets for environment protection and climate change, Chandigarh University is organising a two-day international conference on ‘Environmental Diversity & Environmental Jurisprudence: National & International Perspective’ on May 7-8, at its Gharuan campus.


Vice President of India, Shri Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu will be the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony on Saturday, May 7, which will also be graced by Governor of Punjab, and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Banwarilal Purohit, while Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union Cabinet Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change will be the Chief Guest at the Valedictory Ceremony on Sunday, May 8, informed S. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University.



“Hon'ble Justices of the Supreme Court of India, Justices Sanjay Krishan Kaul, Surya Kant, B R Gavai, former Supreme Court Judge and former NGT chairman, Justice Swatanter Kumar, Chief Justices and Judges from State High Courts, Representatives from 20 countries including Judges, Environmentalists, Lawyers, Experts in Biodiversity and Environmental Jurisprudence from all over the globe, besides the representatives of the United Nations will participate in the conference, which will be attended by 4000 students,” the Chancellor said.


Emphasising on understanding and analysing the potentials and threats faced by bio-diversity and to attain environmental Justice through sound regulatory mechanisms, this conference focuses on the sustainable use of bio-diversity to assist Nation's growth while maintaining eco-system wellness and environmental Justice, he added.


Over the course of two days, the dignitaries will hold elaborate discussions on Climate Change, Bio Diversity, Ecotourism Development and Biodiversity Conservation after Covid-19, Policy Legislative Scheme and Biodiversity Strategies, Air Pollution, Emerging Technology, Issues and Approaches Relating to Solar Energy, Enabling Sustainable Development Goals through Inclusive Green Energy Transitions, Role of International Treaties in Eliminating Air Pollution, The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development, besides an exhaustive session on the concept of Public Interest Litigation.


“The University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Chandigarh University will prepare a detailed report and roadmap, and present it to the Government of India, based on discussions and consultations with global judges and experts during this conference,” said the Chancellor.
