Internet Culture - How Internet applications can be applied in a teaching/learning environment



The need for educational experiences is rapidly growing. Not just with the education sector, the “e” word has become a buzz with activities like real estate, retailing, banking and entertainment. It has pervaded our lives and we have become net savvy netizens of this dot.com age. Subtle shift in focus from promoting a variety of information and communication technologies in the learning environment to the expectation that e-learning can replace the formal learning experience.




Global Presence
With the advent of internet and allied services, there are many transitions that have occurred in the education sector and have revolutionized the industry. Almost all, dodging a negligible few, institutes schools, colleges, and universities are increasing becoming prominent over online portals. The main reason for its popularity being omnipresence that the internet allows to these institutes due to which they are able to register a global presence.
 
Student Convenience
E- Learningcan be an interactive tool in the enhancing the overall teaching and learning environment where the teachers and students are partners. The e- learning course is a hit with the students as the students appreciate the convenience, choice, and flexibility that online courses offer. Also there is an overall reduction in the costs of education and many universities are finding ways to bring the benefits of the classroom into an e-learning course.



Web Based Learning and Multimedia Benefits
Web-based learning provides the means for changing fundamentally the way in which instruction is delivered to students. Multimedia learning resources combined with workbooks attempt to explore the essential concepts of a course by using the full pedagogical power of multimedia.This type of teaching method not only promotes the development of innovative ways of teaching and training but contributes to student acumen by integrating with knowledge-based design sites.

Chandigarh University is an institution that embodies the entire societal, intellectual, and cultural values and realizes that being an effective teacher is a challenge that every single player in this field recognizes as the most daunting task. E-journals with easy access, resource sharing through min—cloud computing and online discussion forums.  


NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and humanities streams. The mission of NPTEL is to enhance the quality of engineering education in the country by providing free online courseware. DELNET has been established with the prime objective of promoting resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries.

9 Engineering courses at Chandigarh University get ABET accreditation

 Chandigarh University now has the highest number of ABET accredited engineering courses among private universities in the country Chandigarh University (CU), Gharuan, has earned the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) recognition for its nine engineering programmes. Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu claimed that CU now has the highest number of ABET accredited engineering courses among private universities in the country. Honorable Chancellor, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu added that ABET, a premier global accreditation organisation for engineering and engineering technology programmes, is considered as evidence of an engineering programme’s standards.
