Bank recruitment in the FY 19

Despite facing cash crisis and other major issues, various state-owned banks including State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank are expected to go ahead with staffing of about one lakh personnel in the current financial year to match up with the requirement of new-age banking needs and grow their business.

The number is more than double the number of people hired by these banks in the last two years. Notably, PSU banks collectively hired 95,000 in last two years for positions like clerk, management trainees and probationary officers excluding the number of lateral hirings done by the bank.

PSU banks are likely to proceed for specialist recruitment such as wealth management, analytics and customer services simultaneously enabling the State-owned banks to be competitive post the battle with huge number of bad assets.
The need to change the culture of PSUs to extract business can be seen in their hiring patterns. They are now focusing on hiring talent in line with new age as well as private/multinational creditors which will in turn yield results over a period of time
The PSUs are hiring more officers and few clerks. Barring State Bank of India, 20 per cent of total employees in PSBs fall in the category of clerks. The SBI has currently around 45 per cent employees as clerks.

7 Steps to choose the right Institution/ University for your Professional Education

1.       Check whether your Institution/ University is approved or not?

Earning a degree is important but earning a degree which is recognized and approved by the Government or its concerned agencies is even more important. While choosing an institution or university, it is important to know whether it is approved by Government agencies. There are multiple agencies which recognizes or grants approvals to run a program in a particular field.

a)      In case of University: - Any University should be approved from UGC (University Grants Commission), Government of India which means that the University is recognized to award its own degrees in various disciplines. Here is the list of UGC approved Universities.
b)      In case of Institutions and Colleges: - Any Institution or College needs to affiliate with a Government University and has to be dually approved by the state and central government.

In addition to above, there are programs which requires approvals from certain Government agencies:-

1.       For Engineering AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education)
2.       For Architecture Council for Architecture (CoA) is mandatory.
3.       For Pharmacy, Pharmacy Council of India
4.       For Law, Bar Council of India
5.       For B.Ed. NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education)

2.       Next-Generation/ New Age Programs

Technology is changing fast in corporate world, hence it is desirable to undergo education at the University or Institution which is offering programs in emerging areas. Check the Industry involvement with the universities or institutions that you want to consider for your admission in terms of Industry Collaborative Programs, involvement of industry experts in designing the course curriculum, subjects offered in emerging areas which industry is looking for and certifications offered by Industry.

3.       Value Addition

Today earning degree is not enough for a successful career. It is important to have value addition that will add weight to your profile while appearing for job interviews. Go for a University or Institution which inculcates value addition through Industry Certification, Global Certifications, Workshops & Internships and Opportunity to carry out Research.

4.       Career Opportunities

Choose a University or Institution which offers multiple career options to you. When we say career options, it means an option to choose from Campus Placements, Entrepreneurship, Higher Studies, Preparation for Government Jobs like Civil Services, International Avenues and Research. Gone are the days when every student used to have only one career option which was jobs.

5.       Campus Placements

Although Campus Placements is not the only option, yet it is considered to be the most important aspect while choosing a University or Institution for pursuing professional education. It is also important to check the training & preparation offered to you by the institution to crack campus interviews. Check not only the placement record of the University/ Institution but look for a consistent record for at-least 3-4 years. Look for names of top multi-nationals in your field and also check the salary packages that the companies are offering to the fresh talent. The consistency of MNCs visiting a college or university shows the academic strength and its acceptance by the corporate world. You can also check the credentials of pass-out students of your stream who have been placed in previous years.

6.       What RoI?

Return-on-Investment in Education is calculated by comparing the amount of fees that you pay as a student to the University or Institution to undergo degree and salary package that you were offered by the company during campus placements. As the fees is annually paid to the institution or university and the package is also offered on annual basis (LPA), both can be compared to calculate the Return of Investment.

How To Choose Your Engineering Program

With so many types of engineering to choose from, it can be a tedious task to narrow down which one is for you, given this extensive field of study.  An organised approach will help you choose what suits best for you. To begin with, write down what you’re passionate about, what do you spend your free time on? All types of engineering include some form of problem-solving (and generally focus on making life easier), but what engineering-related solution gives you the most buzz? If you choose a subject you’re naturally interested in, you’ll find it easier to stay motivated during your course, and stay involved with the subject whilst pursuing an engineering career.

Here’s a rundown of the various branches of engineering, to help you decide which one could be for you.

Chemical engineering
Mechanical engineering
Electrical engineering
Electronic engineering
Civil engineering
Other more specialist engineering degrees include:

Aerospace engineering (making machines that fly – covers aircraft and spacecraft)
Automotive engineering (deals with ground-based vehicles)
Bioengineering (engineering in a medical context to develop better medical technologies)
Communications/telecoms/network engineering (covers communication networks for voice and data)
Mechatronics engineering (developing and improving manufacturing processes)
Marine technology/naval architecture/ship science (engineering for water vessels and offshore structures)
Computer systems engineering (covers computer hardware and software and communication networks – related to computer science and to electronics)

How your engineering degree discipline influences your career

Taking a degree in a particular engineering discipline will typically influence what jobs you can apply for after university and the specialism you have in your career. However, some engineering employers require all-rounders, whose skills and knowledge cross engineering disciplines. These employers may take on graduates from lots of different engineering disciplines and train them up together to be able to work interchangeably on any aspect of a project. For example, if you're designing a highly complex defence system or helping to troubleshoot engineering problems on a manufacturing production line you are likely to need to understand different areas of engineering and use your knowledge to solve problems and to design solutions.

What's the best type of engineering degree to keep your options open?

If you're not sure what type of engineering you want to specialise in, General engineering degrees are a good bet as you get to learn about a number of different disciplines. However, on some courses you do need to make a decision and specialise eventually.

Alternatively, some engineering disciplines leave more doors open than others. Mechanical engineering, for example, can lead you into a very wide range of roles and industries. Electrical, electronic and civil engineering also leave many doors open.  Some degrees will lead you down a more defined path like more specialist degrees such as aerospace, automotive or bioengineering. Once you've decided which engineering discipline you want to study, choosing the right university is the next step. Choose the university that bridges the gap from classroom to the actual professional world.

We at Chandigarh University provide you a wide range of engineering education in an environment that pursues excellence and discovery. University Institute of Engineering (UIE), Chandigarh University was ranked 16th among the Top Engineering Institutes of India by The Outlook Magazine. Join Chandigarh University and emerge career ready by learning form the best minds and develop a learning experience and a career of immense quality.

Confused Between a Job or MBA?

Well! It’s OK to be confused after graduation as picking-up between accepting a job or pursuing an MBA is really a tricky one. Both options take you to the absolutely diverse career paths, one leading to the office and another to college/university.

Explore CU Blog post to know about the facts which, if considered will help you get this formula right by effectively choosing between a Job or an MBA.

1. Industry Demand

First of all, look at the market demand to find out the career scope for MBA graduates. Rational market analysis enhances the chances of student’s employability and expertise in the chosen domain. Indeed, if the demand seems to be escalating in the future, then undoubtedly explore your other options and choose MBA, as specialized knowledge in the increasingly competitive marketplace will let you stand out of the crowd.

2. Check-out your finances

Second in the queue, but the most important thing is the arrangement of funds. In parallel to  the market scope, also identify your source of funds. If you can afford the fees you can simply go ahead or you can even explore substantial loan options. In case these options are not for you then never risk and it’s better to take the first job , work on building your savings and then go ahead with MBA.

3. Weigh experience

The two arguments worth considering are “don’t break your flow of studies” and “experience the real-time market first to precisely find out the demand of the market.” But fix it in mind that nothing in the world can make you expert like playing in the mud first.

4. Consider benefits of pursuing MBA

Undoubtedly higher studies can help you gain significantly high industry oriented skills and the potential opportunities rise if you have a degree in your hand.

5. Ask yourself “Why”

Eventually the final decision is yours. Considering all the aforementioned points, ask yourself the actual reason for choosing the job over MBA or vice-versa. All you need to do is – think rationally that could help you in future.
