Sighting a rapid increase and the progressive emergence in the Indian IT industry, Infosys co-founderN.R. Narayana Murthy stated that the IT industry had overtaken the state-run public sector in job creation.
Addressing the special session of the Commonwealth Science Conference in Bangalore, Murthy was quoted as saying,“The IT industry, especially its software sector, has over taken public sector undertakings (PSUs) as the biggest job creator in the country, with 3.2 million employees and adding 200,000 new jobs every year.” Comparing the Indian IT Industry with the thriving manufacturing industry of China, Murthy stated that leading IT giants such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Cognizant, and Wipro were hiring for quality positions along with lucrative salary packages for young professionals.
Lately, the increased hiring by leading IT companies all across India had given students an opportunity to kick-start their careers with respectable technological organizations, providing them with immense opportunities to learn and groom themselves as leaders of tomorrow.
Murthy was invited as a speaker at a special session of ‘Entrepreneurship and Innovation in India’, a four-day summit organized to discuss the growing business and technological trends in India. Highlighting the importance of huge employment in the software sector and its positive effects on the Indian Economy, Murthy told the audience how growth in hiring has helped the young techie population of India in investing a better future for them.
The IT Industry ecosystem has created three indirect jobs for every direct job with spin-offs in the secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy, Murthy noted. Addressing the gathering with immense pride, the former Infosys Chairman discussed how the software sector had put India on the global map and gave the country’s technological image a major boost all over the world.
The industry's representative body Nasscom has projected 14-15 percent growth in IT exports to $99 billion this fiscal (2014-15) from $86 billion last fiscal.
Murthy, however, projected that the Indian software industry would grow 12-14 percent per annum over the next five years.
Complementing the new confidence and mindset inserted by the Indian IT industry in Indian business, Murthy said that there were enough reasons to be optimistic "The IT industry has brought a new confidence, a new mindset and a new paradigm in Indian business," he noted.
